Data sent to a transcription provider

OpenTypeless sends data only after you accept the in-app data-processing disclosure. Voice recordings, personal dictionary hints, and transcript text used for formatting go directly from your Mac to the provider and endpoint you select. The default provider is OpenAI; OpenAI-compatible endpoints are also supported.

OpenTypeless and its developer do not proxy, receive, or store these network requests. Changing the provider or custom endpoint requires consent for the new destination.

Data stored on your Mac

Your API key in macOS Data Protection Keychain.
Transcription history in a local SQLite database.
Failed recordings and recovery metadata in Application Support.
Preferences, including hotkeys, provider, model, endpoint, language, and consent in UserDefaults.
Transcript text temporarily in the clipboard when insertion or recovery requires it.

You can delete individual or all history entries and failed recordings from Settings. You can also delete your API key. These deletions are permanent.

Permissions

OpenTypeless requests Microphone access to record your voice and Accessibility access for the global shortcut and text insertion. These permissions are not used for analytics, advertising, or tracking.

Children, changes, and contact

OpenTypeless is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children. Material changes will be documented here. For questions or reports, open an issue on GitHub.
